Open Score Summer Reading Challenge

July 7-10, 2025

We're kicking off a 4-day Open Score Reading Challenge starting July 7, and you're invited to join the fun!

If you participated in the How to Read Open Score Workshop (or meant to), now's your moment. This is your chance to revisit the workbook, share wins with fellow choral accompanists, and move from "Where do I start?" to "I've got this!" 

We will walk through four different selections of music, from Bach, Purcell, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn, practicing the strategies I introduced in the workshop and using music from the appendices of the student workbook. You will receive support and encouragement from me as well as the opportunity to share your wins (and wobbles!) in a supportive community of choral accompanists.

Workshop Alumni

Those who previously attended the workshop and haven't yet worked through the practical exercises in the appendix. This challenge will provide you with accountability, detailed instructions on what to do each day, and a supportive community to cheer you on.

Those who completed the appendix exercises and want to share their wins with the community and learn from others. (Plus, all challenge participants receive BONUS open score music for more practice!)

New Participants

Those who haven't yet viewed the workshop but would like to watch the workshop on-demand and join the challenge as your follow-through. Think of it as Open Score Reading Bootcamp! You will receive a link to the 40-minute workshop, the 37-page workbook, and an invitation to our choral community on Facebook. You will also receive the BONUS open score music available to all Challenge participants and an introduction to the challenge.

what to expect

Starting July 7, you will receive a daily email with the day's assignment (a 15-20 minute task) and  a little encouragement from me, plus the opportunity to share your challenges and successes in our Choral Accompanists Facebook group.

The cost of the challenge is $15. 

If you are an alumni of my workshop, you get a discounted price of $9! (Enter your e-mail at checkout)

New participants can bundle the challenge ($15) and the workshop (normally priced at $30) for just $35, or purchase the challenge alone.

From July 7-10, we will walk through four different selections of music from Bach, Purcell, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn, practicing the strategies I introduced in the How to Read Open Score workshop. You will receive a daily email assignment from me, support and encouragement for your progress, and the opportunity to share your wins (and wobbles!) in a wonderful community of choral accompanists.

Included in your purchase are two downloadable PDFs: an introduction to the challenge, and a workbook with all the music you will need for the week plus BONUS material for use after the challenge

Note: If you still have your workbook from the How to Read Open Score workshop, you may use it for this challenge. We will be going over the music from the appendix. For further challenge, the Reading Challenge Supplement offers BONUS material to practice (in addition to the music from the workshop appendix in case you've misplaced yours!).
