Studio Policy

Please Note: I am not accepting new students at this time, but I am happy to offer suggestions on how to find a teacher who best fits you or your child.

Location

I teach all lessons in my home in Bothell.  Parents are welcome to stay and observe their child's lessons.

Tuition and Fees
Lessons are $25 per half hour. Payment is due in advance at the first lesson of each month for that month’s lessons. You will receive an invoice the week prior to the due date detailing lesson and book fees. Books will be purchased throughout the year according to student’s progress and noted on the monthly invoice. (Books usually cost no more than $50 per year.) A late fee of $3 per student will be charged for any payments made after the 2nd week of the month.

Make-up Lessons
In the event that a student must cancel a lesson, 24 hours notice is required. A make-up lesson will be scheduled at the teacher’s discretion. In case of sudden illness, exceptions may be made. Only three make-up lessons may be scheduled during the school year. There are no refunds for missed lessons.

Student Responsibilities
1. Arrive at lessons on time. If you come late, you will have only the remainder of the time for your lesson.
2. Come prepared with lesson books and a completed assignment sheet. Have you checked off how many days you practiced?
3. Practice 20-30 minutes each day 5 times a week. Lesson time does not count as part of this practice time. Practice time includes time at the piano working on new music as well as reviewing flashcards and doing work in your theory book.
4. Give parents any bills, newsletters, or calendars received during lessons.

Practice
Much of the student’s learning will take place in his/her practice time at home. It is important that the parent provides an undisturbed, comfortable environment for the student to practice in. Assignment sheets will be given to the student each week with practice suggestions and appropriate practice times for his/her level. Most students will be expected to practice half an hour each day. This time is adjusted for younger students and more advanced students. It is acceptable to take off one day a week from practicing, provided it is not the day of, immediately before, or immediately after, the lesson. If you have any questions regarding practice, please call me.

Recitals
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in recitals. Performing gives a student a sense of accomplishment, and the more he performs, the more confident he will become at playing in front of others. As the studio grows, there will be at least 2 recitals a year, one in December and one in June. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.
